Akado Telecom launches metro optical network based on Infinera platform

Telecom Lead Europe: Akado Telecom, a cable network operator, has launched metro optical network in Moscow based on the Infinera DTN and ATN platforms.

Akado selected Infinera for flexibility, scalability and simplicity of Infinera’s integrated end-to-end solutions.

The new metro transport network using Infinera’s Digital Optical Network architecture will enable Akado to deploy a next generation DWDM infrastructure to support 100 GbE services.

Akado Telecom, which has its own fiber-optic network for more than 18,000 kilometers, provides residential Internet access, voice services, and cable TV services, as well as a range of enterprise services for businesses.

Infinera in a statement said that its DTN platform is suitable for the metropolitan core network and the ATN will provide a compact metro aggregation solution with a common network management solution for end-to-end point-and-click transport services.

With demand for bandwidth driving 10 gigabit services and emerging interest in 100 GbE services coming from their customers, Akado Telecom needed a modern DWDM backbone network with integrated OTN switching capabilities.

Vitaly Klishin, business development director at Akado Group, said: “As one of the first service providers in Russia to offer 100 GbE services, we are committed to continuously satisfying the needs of over 3,500 enterprises, 350 service providers, and over 12,000 state organizations, and will further innovate our backbone network in 2013.”

The Infinera DTN platform, powered by 100 Gb/s photonic integrated circuits, is designed to scale up to 6.4 Tb/s of transmission capacity per fiber today and support services with speeds up to 100 GbE.

Recently, Akado Telecom said it signed a deal with the Federal State Organization to provider telecommunication services. As per the contract, the operator arranges channels of Internet access with unlimited bandwidth and speed of Internet access up to 100MB in Moscow. The cost of the two contracts is approximately 1 million 323 thousand rubles.
