Comcast Unveils DOCSIS 4.0 Technology, Pioneering Multi-Gigabit Internet for Customers

Comcast has announced a groundbreaking milestone in the world of internet connectivity with the introduction of next-generation Internet powered by DOCSIS 4.0 technology.
Comcast has launched Xfinity xFiThis advanced version of DOCSIS technology is set to revolutionize internet connectivity, offering multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds to residential customers over existing connections available in tens of millions of homes across Comcast markets nationwide.

The introduction of DOCSIS 4.0 will enable Comcast to roll out a new portfolio of symmetrical products for residential customers. The initial deployment of DOCSIS 4.0 will commence in select neighborhoods in Colorado Springs, CO, followed by launches in new markets across the country in the coming years. Specific areas in Atlanta, GA, and Philadelphia, PA are expected to experience the rollout before the year concludes.

Dave Watson, President & CEO of Comcast Cable, highlighted the transformative potential of this technology.

“Our connectivity experience, powered by the Xfinity 10G Network, will allow us to deliver speeds up to 10 Gbps over our traditional network to virtually all our customers, plus even better reliability, lower latency, and the best in-home WiFi coverage,” Dave Watson said.

X-Class Internet

The new DOCSIS 4.0 technology paves the way for Comcast’s next-generation X-Class Internet portfolio. Residential customers, both new and existing, connected via DOCSIS 4.0, will have access to a range of X-Class speed tiers, offering symmetrical upload and download speeds. These include X-300 Mbps, X-500 Mbps, X-1 Gbps, and X-2 Gbps, ensuring an exceptional online experience for a variety of activities, from live sports streaming to seamless work calls and ultra-responsive gaming.

Full Duplex DOCSIS and Comcast’s 10G Innovation

Comcast’s achievement in DOCSIS 4.0 is bolstered by its utilization of “Full Duplex” network technology, leveraging the same network spectrum to significantly enhance upstream speeds without compromising downstream speeds. This innovative approach is a key enabler for DOCSIS 4.0.

Comcast’s remarkable journey towards DOCSIS 4.0 involved pioneering network technology, live tests of full duplex DOCSIS, world-first 10G connections, and live trials, demonstrating its commitment to delivering cutting-edge connectivity solutions.

Comcast’s continued investment in superior connectivity experiences not only focuses on speed but also emphasizes reliability and minimal lag. With the introduction of DOCSIS 4.0, Comcast is poised to lead the industry in delivering unprecedented internet speeds and quality to customers, reshaping the landscape of residential internet connectivity.
