Valoo selects Nokia for 10G broadband network in Finland

Valoo is deploying a 10G broadband network that will connect 200,000 homes in and around 30 cities in Finland by the end of 2026.
Valoo FinlandValoo has selected Nokia for fiber access nodes for the central office and Altiplano broadband access controller, which includes software defined access networking (SDAN) capabilities.

The XGS-PON deployment is ready for 25G PON when Valoo wants to add more capacity. Quillion also offers lower emissions.

Tommi Linna, Chief Executive Officer at Valoo, said: “Nokia’s Lightspan multi-gig fiber broadband solution enables us to deliver network connection to multiple customers using the same fiber and accelerate internet connections up to 20 gigabit and beyond.”

Sandy Motley, President Fixed Networks at Nokia, said: “With our Altiplano controller, Valoo has laid the foundation for automation in the broadband access network, which is essential for operators looking to innovate with advanced digital broadband offerings while keeping their operational expenditure under control.”

Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller offers a complete suite of network management as well as SDN control functions to automate, assure, visualize, optimize, and enhance broadband networks. Altiplano automates network lifecycle management activities and provides operators a single pane of glass to manage the entire access network domain.

Nokia 7360-FX Lightspan, located in telecom central office, connects users via optical fiber, aggregates their broadband traffic and sends it deeper in the network. The fiber access node supports multiple fiber technologies including GPON, XGS-PON, 25GS-PON and Point-to-Point Ethernet to deliver a wide range of services with the best fit technology.

The Nokia Lightspan MF is the industry’s first family of software-defined fiber access nodes designed to provide non-blocking delivery of massive scale, high-speed broadband services with 25G PON, 50G PON and beyond.
