Juniper to supply QFX switching technology to NEP

Juniper Networks IndiaNEP The Netherlands, a media technology company, is using Juniper Networks’ switching tech and solutions to create a IP multi-camera production platform for TV.

NEP, which provides the technology and people to enable its clients to produce television events, such as the Oscars and Olympic Games, has selected Juniper Networks QFX switching technology to deliver television services, including 4K video on demand, interactive split screen and 360-degree virtual reality.

NEP aims to speed up faster service delivery, lower total cost of ownership, and more flexibility for NEP and its clients by transforming its production systems from a broadcast Serial Digital Interface (SDI) environment to cloud-based IP platforms. NEP clients include television broadcasters, cable networks and event producers.

Juniper’s QFX switching platforms with open architectures power NEP’s pre-and post-production functions in cloud environment. This production environment is needed to support applications that move hundreds of gigabits of uncompressed video.

NEP plans to expand its capabilities by adding two more studios, 4 extra cloud production galleries, 30 playout channels and live 4K OTT (Over the Top) delivery from sports venues. Running applications over open standard technology with Juniper enables NEP to easily upgrade from HD to 4K to 8K and beyond by adding more capacity or a new compression algorithm without changing the overall network.

“We needed a cost-effective technology that met the demands of the broadcast environment where massive amounts of data are processed with zero tolerance for glitches or delays,” said Gerbrand de Ridder, head of research & development and lead system architect at NEP The Netherlands.

Denise Shiffman, senior vice president, product management, Juniper Networks, was instrumental in signing the contract with NEP The Netherlands.
