XO Communications has expanded its Ethernet network to nearly two million business locations.

Its Ethernet services capabilities have also been enhanced with the addition of 100 Mbps Ethernet over copper (EoC) access.

XO Communications on Wednesday said it offers a range of high-speed Ethernet over copper access options up to 100Mbps. The improved network will support faster access to the company’s portfolio of VoIP, network, security and cloud-based services.

Ethernet over copper technology enables XO Communications to utilize the existing last mile copper infrastructure to deliver Ethernet access from 3 Mbps to now up to 100 Mbps, supporting significantly more bandwidth for customers at a more economical cost compared to other access options.

The expanded EoC coverage along with the company’s Ethernet Network-to-Network Interface (NNI) agreements with dozens of carriers and cable companies gives XO Communications one of the most extensive Ethernet access networks in the industry.

“Today’s announcement, along with our launch of our nationwide 100 Gbps network last month, demonstrates XO Communications’ Ethernet services leadership in terms of the broad range of bandwidth options we offer and our commitment to making Ethernet more widely available,” said Don MacNeil, chief marketing officer at XO Communications.

“As demand for Ethernet continues to accelerate, XO Communications is very well positioned to deliver cost effective, scalable, high-speed Ethernet access options coupled with extensive nationwide coverage,” MacNeil added.
