Telecom Lead @ Mobile World Congress 2013: Genband will showcase mobility solutions as part of its Making Networks Smarter vision.
Featured solutions include the recently announced Samsung Mobile alliance to enhance security and simplicity by integrating Samsung Mobile’s SAFE (Samsung for Enterprise) designated devices with Genband’s SMART OFFICE and SMART HOME mobile Unified Communications (UC) applications, the NUViA multimedia cloud service, as well as Genband’s SMART EXPERIENCE, SMART EDGE and SMART CORE solutions for mobile and fixed network operators serving business and consumer markets.
Genband’s Smart Networking solutions are aligned with cloud enablement technologies, including Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN), enabling Genband to offer on-demand services that deliver customers greater capital efficiency through automation and self-configuration.

Meanwhile, Genband announced that British Telecommunications (BT) has selected Genband’s SMART EDGE IP Exchange (IPX) solution to expand its Global IP Interconnect (GIPX) services to wholesale customers across Asia and the Americas.
BT will deploy Genband solutions in two new hubs – Singapore and Miami – to deliver SIP-based IP Interconnect for other global tier 1 and tier 2 carriers in these regions.
BT’s GIPX services now support 290 communications providers worldwide and these deployments are the first of many global hubs planned to bring interconnect services closer to the markets BT serves, and to better serve BT’s growing presence worldwide.
Gemalto is also collaborating with China’s UnionPay to build a secure mobile NFC ecosystem. UnionPay has the world’s largest network of payment cards, with more than 3.5 billion cards issued to date.
According to ABI Research, China’s mobile commerce market is expected to become the world’s largest by 2014, with an estimated US$8 billion worth of transactions conducted via NFC.
