Aircel taps Snapdeal to sell mobile data packages

Aircel India
Telecom network operator Aircel has joined hands with e-commerce website Snapdeal to sell data packages to boost its mobile data business.

Snapdeal will offer two exclusive mobile data packs worth Rs 402 and Rs 602 for online shoppers. The strategy eliminates the need to buy recharge from a retail shop. Aircel claims these data packs offer more benefits than the available market recharges.

The online market place will deliver the voucher called Aircel Paper Recharge via a courier service which will collect cash from the customer against physical delivery of the voucher. In addition to Snapdeal, Aircel will be looking to extend it to other ecommerce websites as well.

Aircel posted a 75 percent increase in its 3G user base, while India’s smartphone base has seen an increase of 55 percent in 2015. Aircel does not share specific details about its 3G subscriber base in India.

“Our industry first offers are intended to redefine the way mobile internet is consumed in India and we are confident that through these new offers we will continue our data success story in India,” said Anupam Vasudev, chief marketing officer, Aircel.

Aircel offers insurance cover

Aircel has also partnered with Ingram, a mobile insurance provider, for Aircel Cover Plus. Customers who buy a new smartphone can select from two variants of Aircel Cover Plus within 7 days of the purchase for getting coverage limited to Accidental and Liquid Damage.

For smartphones worth up to Rs 10,000, customers can purchase Rs 499 pack that offers benefits worth Rs 1200. This will also include 1GB Aircel data for 3 months. Rs 799 pack will offer insurance against smartphones worth up to Rs 55000 and will include 1GB Aircel data for 3 months and Premium Anti-Virus.

Aircel boosts mobile video

Aircel has also tied up nexGTv to boost mobile video business. Aircel customers will enjoy NextGTV’s live TV that offers 130+ live TV channels and 2000+ movies at a discounted annual subscription for Rs 749 along with 1 GB Aircel data every month for 3 months.

Sunil Kuttam, vice president – Marketing, Aircel, said the emerging trend of viewing videos on mobile devices has led to consumers spending more time on their smartphones than watching TV. 70 percent of mobile broadband smartphone users regularly stream videos on their smartphones, and 61 percent use social networks.
