Samsung widens gap with Micromax in smartphone share

Samsung India has widened its gap with local rival Micromax in the smartphone share in January 2015, according to CMR.

Micromax, which brings out cost effective and innovative devices, wanted to overtake Samsung to become the number one smartphone brand in India.

The smartphone shipment share of Samsung in January was 28.8 percent, while Micromax had 12.1 percent, Intex 9.7 percent, Lava 9.4 percent and Microsoft 4.6 percent in the Indian smartphone market.

The overall phone shipment is dominated by Samsung with 17.3 percent, while Lava is the second largest player with 11.9 percent. Microsoft has 10.3 percent, Micromax 9.7 percent and Intex 8.5 percent share in the overall phone market in India.

Xiaomi is the leading 4G smartphone vendor with 30.8 percent share. The second largest 4G phone vendor is Apple with 23.8 percent, Samsung 12.1 percent, HTC 10 percent and Micromax 8.3 percent.
