Cavium announces deployment of OCTEON processors for 3G/4G systems with Samsung

Cavium Networks announced that it is accelerating mass deployment of its latest
OCTEON processors through a collaboration for 3G/4G systems with Samsung
Electronics.

“The demand for secure and intelligent mobile data is growing at a record
pace, and the telecom industry is looking for a simple and cost-effective way
for the evolution from 3G/WiMAX to LTE/WiMAX 2. We are delighted to have
Samsung as a customer and enable compelling functionality and performance in
their 3G/4G systems,” said YJ Kim, general manager, infrastructure
Processor Group, Cavium Networks.

OCTEON Processors are ideal for 4G wireless solutions including Base stations
and Packet Core environments, which require unprecedented levels of
scalability, performance, security and deep packet inspection. Cavium‘s unique line of OCTEON Processors from 1 to 32 cores with integrated advanced
3G/4G hardware accelerators are optimized for cost, performance and power for
these demanding 4G requirements.

The Cavium OCTEON
processor family is the industry’s broadest and highest performance Multi-core
MIPS64 processor family with price points that address application performance
ranging from 1Gbps to 40+Gbps in a single chip.

The OCTEON processor family consists of processors with 1 to 32
high-performance cores in a single chip with integrated networking interfaces
and industry leading hardware acceleration for packet processing, quality of
service, TCP, Security, compression / decompression and DPI. The OCTEON
Processor has been chosen by many tier-1 TEMs for Mobile Infrastructure
Platforms due to superior 3G, and WiMAX, LTE Layer 2 to Layer 7 capabilities.
