Lookout Mobile Security signs partnership with mobile operator Telstra

Lookout Mobile Security, a provider of
mobile security solutions, announced its international expansion starting with
Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

As part of Lookout’s growth abroad, the
company announced its association with mobile operator Telstra, Australia’s
largest telecommunications company. With more than 12 million users, Lookout
plays an instrumental role in protecting mobile devices from malware and
spyware, phishing scams, data loss and loss of the device itself.

By 2015, Gartner estimates tablet sales
will total near 326 million1, and smartphone sales will reach one billion2. As
mobile devices become more prevalent worldwide, attackers will increasingly
target them regardless of location, making mobile security an issue faced in
every country.

In the last four months Lookout found
mobile malware instances have more than doubled, reaching nearly 1,000 infected
apps.

“Mobile threats don’t discriminate based on
where you are. They tend to be global, affecting people around the world,” said
Lookout CEO and co-founder, John Hering.

“We are providing a simple way for people
to protect their most personal devices. Australia, Canada and the UK will be
the first of many countries where Lookout will deliver an adapted experience,”
Hering added.

Lookout provides Telstra’s customers with
a simple way to protect themselves against mobile threats and to keep the
important information stored on their mobile devices safe. Telstra customers
can easily download Lookout from the Telstra section in the Android Market.

“As Telstra customers increasingly rely on
their smartphones and tablets, we want to ensure that security options are in
place to ensure the safest possible experience for our customers,” said Freddie
Jansen Van Nieuwenhuizen at Telstra.

The Lookout Mobile Security app is powered
by Lookout’s Mobile Threat Network, a cloud-based network which constantly
analyzes global threat data to identify and quickly block new threats with
over-the-air app updates. Threat detection that would have taken days now
happens in minutes, effectively protecting users before they even know a threat
exists.

Lookout’s Mobile Threat Network scans
billions of apps per month and is the largest database of smartphone
applications available.

Lookout blocks thousands of malicious links
daily; Lookout has seen a doubling of malicious links blocked month over month
as more people protect their phones.

Lookout currently backs up 6.5 billion
contacts and finds 5 phones every minute.

Lookout has also extended the protection available
to mobile devices to any app store or download site through the newly released
Lookout API. Lookout is a free app available to download from the Android
Market and App Store.
