Telecom Infrastructure specialist Flexenclosure expands in Asia, opens 4th office in the region

Telecom Lead Asia: Telecom infrastructure specialist Flexenclosure expands its operations in Asia with the opening of a new office in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The new office will serve Pakistan and Central Asia and is Flexenclosure’s fourth new office in 2012, after Gurgaon, India; Lagos, Nigeria; and Dubai, UAE.

Flexenclosre develops intelligent power management systems and modular data centers for the telecom industry. The company has made great inroads in Africa and Asia with its award-winning power management solution eSite and its energy efficient modular data centre eCentre.

These solutions are designed to address the need for intelligent, green, advanced energy efficient solutions to power base stations, enabling global mobile operators to lower their operating expenses and reduce their dependency on diesel fuel to power base stations.

In Pakistan alone, there is a market of at least 35,000 telecom towers, a majority of which are without a reliable grid connection.

“Central Asia is a region with severe challenges related to power generation,” said David King, CEO, Flexenclosure. “Pakistan is a country with a growing telecom market, but the gap between power generation and power requirement is widening at a phenomenal rate, with demand for electricity increasing faster than the power companies’ ability to generate it. In Afghanistan about 70 percent of the base station sites are off-grid and most of the on-grid sites have highly unreliable grid connections.”

“So the challenges are huge, and this is where eSite and eCentre fit in perfectly. eSite, with its ability to power base stations in areas off the grid or with unreliable grid, can help mobile operators reach target groups that would otherwise have been uneconomical to serve,” King added.

eSite is a power solution for off-grid and unreliable grid base station sites that cuts diesel-related costs by up to 90 percent. Powered by renewable energy sources or the grid and a backup genset, eSite can deliver a 90 percent reduction in diesel fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and energy related OPEX compared to traditional diesel based systems.

eCentre is a complete, pre-fabricated, modular solution to house and power data and telecom equipment. Optimized for energy efficiency and low total cost of ownership, eCentre is specifically designed to be fast to deploy and fully future proof, the company said.
