ADTRAN unveils session border control for enterprise IP business gateways and routers

Telecom Lead America: ADTRAN, a provider of networking
solutions, announced that Session Border Control (SBC) software functionality has
been added to its NetVanta 3430 and 6000 series, as well as Total
AccessE 900e IP Business Gateways.

This software package is developed to address the service
providers need for a new demarcation device to handle normalization, security
and monitoring for their SIP trunking services.

In addition, this new SBC functionality combined with
Total Access 900e IP Business Gateways will enable service providers to offer a
customer migration path as the proliferation of IP continues into the
foreseeable future.

More and more businesses are turning to SIP trunking
services as the connectivity option for their IP-based communications systems.
With the market for SIP trunking services set to quickly grow over the next
several years, ADTRAN’s introduction of SBC functionality targeted toward the
SMB and SME markets should help this market accelerate quickly,” said Brian
Riggs, Current Analysis research director, business technology and software.

The NetVanta and Total Access devices with the SBC
features will handle NAT/firewall traversal, VoIP protocol interworking,
transcoding, media anchoring and provide numerous service provider
troubleshooting tools.

The Session Border Control functionality is a natural
extension of ADTRAN’s IP Business Gateway and Access Router product lines. It
will enable our service provider customers to quickly and easily grow their SIP
trunking business without having to purchase additional hardware,” said Chris
Thompson, senior product manager, Enterprise Networks Division at ADTRAN
.

The NetVanta and Total Access devices with the SBC
features also provides a clear point of demarcation that enables providers to
gather valuable metrics and perform tests, as well as implement network
disaster recovery, security and failover polices without having to modify a
customer owned IP PBX.

Recently, Socket Telecom, a Missouri based CLEC and Internet provider selected ADTRAN for
deploying Total Access 5000 broadband platform for its FTTH Broadband Stimulus
project.
