African operators and CPs must tap the big OTT video opportunity: ZTE

zte-at-africacomWith a sharp increase of Internet users, as well as the popularity of broadband and the development of mobile networks, Africa is emerging as a big market for Over-the-top (OTT) video services; however, operators and communications providers are confronted with a number of challenges.

The topic was discussed during the Big Video Summit for Africa, hosted at AfricaCom by ZTE.

Operators were concerned with how to provide a consistent multi-screen experience across significantly different networks, as well as how to operate video content and explore video services, and how to work with operatorsā€™ traditional services to increase revenue, ZTE said.

Liu Jinshan, CTO Group Member of ZTE, commented that as networks will mainly be used for video in the future, video plays an irreplaceable role in driving network construction, services for terminal users and sustainable development for operators.

At the summit, ZTE highlighted its Big Video 4K+ solution, which delivers an anytime multi-screen user experience, big data smart operation and maintenance from a cloudized platform. It can meet diverse service requirements, provide converged support for both fixed and mobile networks, and is able to handle different operation environments across the African continent.

ZTE also demonstrated its series of 4K ultra-HD smart terminals including an Android TV STB and home media centre, which provides real 4K, plus smart and converged features.
