Airtel again tops in GSM mobile user net additions, total base reaches 677.85 million in May

Telecom Lead India: India’s leading service provider
Airtel added 2.01 million subscribers in the month of May, taking its total
subscriber base to 185.30 million, according to the data released today by the
Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).


Airtel’s market share has reached 27.34 percent with 1.10
percent monthly growth.


GSM operators have added 7.27 million new subscribers in
May 2012, taking the total GSM subscriber base to 677.85 million with 1.08
percent growth from previous month.


Idea Cellular stood at the second spot with 1.75 million
new additions, taking its total subscriber base to 115.96 million, with 1.54
percent monthly growth. The market share of Idea increased to 17.11 percent.


On the third spot, Uninor added 1.52 million new GSM
subscribers on its network, taking its total subscriber base to 45.07 million
with 6.65 percent market share.


Vodafone added 1.20 million new GSM subscribers with
22.50 percent market share recorded in the month of May 2012. The total
subscriber base of Vodafone stood at 152.48 million. On the other hand, Aircel
added 0.80 million new GSM subscribers, taking it total subscriber base to
64.39 million with 9.50 percent market share.


State-run BSNL added 1735 new GSM subscribers, while MTNL
lost 0.68 subscribers in the month of May 2012.


Videocon took its total subscriber base to 6.24 million
with 0.13 million new subscribers. Loop Mobile’s subscriber base stood at 3.26
million with 7836 new subscribers.


Pure CDMA operators MTS India has added 2,
54,995 customers in the month of May 2012, taking its total customer base
to 16,310,283.
