Cisco closes NDS acquisition

Telecom Lead America: Networking major Cisco has
completed the acquisition of NDS Group, a provider of video software and
content security solutions.


Announced in March this year, the acquisition enables
Cisco to enhance opportunities in the telecom service provider market.


The acquisition accelerates the delivery of Cisco
Videoscape platform that enables service providers and media companies to
deliver next-generation video entertainment experiences.


Furthermore, NDS’ software platform, customer segments
and services model harmonize with Cisco’s networked video offerings.


The acquisition lets Cisco to accelerate its expansion in
emerging markets, such as China and India, where NDS has strong presence.


“The addition of NDS’ leading software solutions and
systems integration expertise play a key role in accelerating the Cisco
Videoscape platform aimed at delivering better-than-being-there entertainment
experiences,” said Jesper Anderson, senior vice president and general manager,
Service Provider Video Technology Group.


The acquisition also allows Cisco to provide more
immersive, engaging and social V experience, which will help the company to
create new revenue opportunities for our service provider customers


Under the terms of the agreement, Cisco paid approximately $5 billion, including the repayment of debt
and retention-based incentives, to acquire all of the business and operations
of NDS.


Over the acquisition, NDS’ employees have joined Cisco’s
Service Provider Video Technology Group (SPVTG), which is being led by senior
vice president and general manager Jesper Andersen.


Additionally, Abe Peled, formerly NDS chairman and CEO,
has become senior vice president and chief strategist for Cisco’s Video and
Collaboration Group, of which SPVTG is a part.


Peled will be reporting to Marthin De Beer, senior vice
president of Cisco’s Video and Collaboration Group.


Cisco to buy telecom software provider ClearAccess


Earlier, Cisco also announced that it will buy
ClearAccess, a provider of software to service providers for provisioning and
management of residential and mobile devices.
