Cisco leads the global Service Provider Router market that declined 7 percent

By Telecom Lead Team: Cisco is leading the Service Provider Router market for
4Q11, followed by Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, and Ericsson in the order of
their ranks, according to Dell’Oro Group.

The Service Provider Router market experienced its first
year-over-year decline in two years as sales declined 7 percent to $2.7 billion
in the fourth quarter of 2011, says a new report from the research firm.

From the beginning of 2010 through mid-2011, router sales
grew more than 20 percent each quarter, but started to decelerate last summer, said
Shin Umeda, vice president at Dell’Oro Group.
We think this is a temporary lull that will carry into the middle of this
year, and we expect the market growth to accelerate in the second half of the
year, added Umeda.

North America and Europe witnesses the biggest market contraction,
where telecom service providers tightened the belt on capital budgets and
became increasingly cautious due to macroeconomic uncertainties. However the
market demand remained strong in the stronger economies within the Asia and
Latin America regions.

Cisco continues to be the unbeatable leader in several telecom
infrastructure markets. Another report from Dell’Oro Group revealed
that Cisco Systems maintained the majority revenue market share in the
Enterprise WLAN market in the fourth quarter, followed by Aruba Networks and
Hewlett Packard.

According to the latest Infonetics
report, Cisco is the only of the four cable modem termination system (CMTS)
equipment leaders that gained CMTS revenue market share in 2011, growing from
51 percent to 59 percent of the global market.

Research and Markets also noted
that Cisco Systems, Alcatel-Lucent, Juniper Networks, and Huawei Technologies
are leading the Carrier Ethernet Equipment market in North America currently.
