HIPCOM deploys Acme Packet’ s Net-Net 4500

Acme Packet announced HIPCOM has deployed Acme Packet’s
Net-Net 4500 session border controllers (SBCs) to support the expansion of its
wholesale business access services to include unified communications (UC) based
on Microsoft Lync 2010. The SBCs are utilized for SIP trunking and core
functions that secure HIPCOM’s service infrastructure, normalize SIP signaling
and intelligently segment its network. HIPCOM-provided SIP trunks are utilized
by its IP telephony and Microsoft UC business and wholesale customers.

HIPCOM specializes in the
provisioning of high-quality hosted IP communications solutions, sold through a
network of reseller channel partners in the UK and supported by a range of
carefully selected strategic-vendor partnerships. With an extensive range of
applications, HIPCOM offers its partners a differentiated set of communications
services with the ability to apply these across multiple delivery networks. All
of HIPCOM’s services are delivered as CaaS.

With growth of its business access wholesale services
anticipated to reach 20,000 concurrent sessions, HIPCOM chose Acme Packet‘s high-capacity Net-Net 4500 platform. The breadth of SBC functionality delivered
by Net-Net OS was also a key factor in HIPCOM’s selection of Acme Packet.

HIPCOM is leveraging the Net-Net SBC to normalize SIP
signaling and resolve protocol inconsistencies across network borders. They are
also utilizing security functions such as denial of service attack prevention
and topology hiding to defend their network infrastructure against malicious or
non-malicious traffic overloads and protocol fuzzing. VLAN separation and
session routing allow HIPCOM to securely and efficiently segment their network
and control how session traffic is routed throughout HIPCOM’s core network.

HIPCOM partners with leading solution vendors such as
Acme Packet to help us deliver first-class IP communications services. Acme
Packet’s proven track record and the capabilities of the Net-Net 4500 SBC made
this the best choice for us as more of our wholesale service partners
transition to end-to-end IP services,” said James Brind, chief technology
officer at HIPCOM.

Acme Packet is helping innovative service providers such
as HIPCOM integrate multiple communications services over a common IP
transport.  Our Net-Net SBCs deliver the configuration flexibility and
scale required by hosted service providers to offer SIP-based retail and
wholesale CaaS,” said Dino Di Palma, senior vice president of worldwide sales
and business development, Acme Packet.
