Hong Leong Insurance selects SafeNet to address PCI-DSS compliance

SafeNet, a provider
of information security, announced that Hong Leong Insurance Asia (HLIA), an
insurance provider, has selected SafeNet’s Data Encryption and Control solution
to safeguard its customer data and comply with PCI-DSS requirements.

To meet the PCI-DSS
compliance, HLIA selected SafeNet’s DataSecure, a hardware-based encryption
appliance. It offers a unified platform with data encryption and granular
access control capabilities that can be applied to databases, applications,
mainframe environments, and individual files.

Data protection is
our blueprint strategy for HLIA’s future growth,” said Michael So, manager,
information technology, HLIA.

The majority of
information that HLIA needs to safeguard includes customer information details,
credit card numbers, and telephone numbers. Credit card numbers are encrypted
under an SQL 2000 environment, and there are numerous applications needed to
comply with PCI-DSS standards.

By taking a
hardware-based approach to protecting databases, HLIA has built an extensible
security foundation that will grow with the organization, as the IT environment
diversifies, and as data privacy needs change over time.

SafeNet ProtectDB, a
software application integrated with DataSecure, aptly conforms with HLIA’s
information security needs. It provides the flexibility to encrypt data at
the column level within databases, at the application layer, and during
batch-driven data transformation and transaction processes. ProtectDB helps
avoid the risks of privileged-user access by allowing for the separation of
administrative duties.

SafeNet has made
this challenge bearable for HLIA with its comprehensive data security solutions
that not only meet specific requirements but are also compliant with
internationally recognized standards,” said Humphrey Chan, vice president, Asia
Pacific, SafeNet.

This approach to data
security also presents cost-saving benefits for HLIA. ProtectDB does not
require application changes, which means that deployment can be done in less
than a month’s time. The centralized policy management features provide
improved data control and visibility, more robust security, and reduced
operational costs.
