Huawei selects Spirent TestCenter to test data center switches

Huawei has selected Spirent TestCenter to verify performance of CE12816, its CloudEngine (CE) series of data center switches.

This TRILL-based Full Mesh test of 768 ports of 10G Ethernet was conducted at massive scale under the most stressful yet realistic conditions, representing China’s highest port density 10G Full Mesh test, as well as the largest-scale TRILL-based Full Mesh test.

Huawei launched the CE12816 data center switch in 2013 with 64 Tbps of single-frame switching capacity and support for high-density switching of 1/10/40/100G Ethernet interfaces as well as virtualization and computing, storage, and network convergence, said Spirent.

The Chinese telecom equipment vendor used Spirent solutions to conduct a TRILL-based Full Mesh and networking capability test for the CE12816. This test verified the CE12816’s the TRILL-based networking capability for up to 512 nodes and high forwarding performance.

Gene Zhang, vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific at Spirent Communications, said: “Spirent’s 40G test module is able to provide the most flexible and cost-effective solution for testing high-performance, low-latency, top-of-rack and end-of- row switches, and data center fabrics spanning hundreds or thousands of ports.”

During the test, the CE12816 was fully configured with 16 high-density 10GE line cards. No packet loss occurred during the line-speed forwarding of 768x10GE ports on the entire switch device.

The test bed used Spirent’s new 40G test modules with the industry’s first 8-port 40GbE/32-port 10GbE dual-speed test module in a single slot configuration, packing up to 96 ports of 40GbE into a single 11U chassis. The modules and chassis provided the test capabilities needed to configure and run high scale emulation and performance tests.

Spirent’s equipment generated Full Mesh traffic across 768 ports of 10G Ethernet to showcase the CE12816 switch’s zero packet loss at line rate forwarding, and support for TRILL. The results allow Huawei to address the scalability, performance and latency needs of increasingly large data centers and cloud-based services.

Luyao Sun, general manager of the Data Center Network Product Field, Enterprise Networking Product Line, Huawei Enterprise Business Group, said: “This TRILL-based Full Mesh and networking capability test proved to be very successful, which demonstrated the industry-leading TRILL-based networking capability and high-speed forwarding performance of Huawei’s CE12816 series data center switches.”
