Hutchison taps Cisco to offer WiseNET

Fixed line telecom network provider Hutchison Global Communications has tapped IT vendor Cisco to offer WiseNET to enterprise customers.

WiseNET, according to a statement from Cisco, will be the first next generation network for the Hong Kong public, using the Metro Ethernet Forum Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (MEF CE 2.0) platform.

The service delivers intelligent network for enterprise customers, as well as data centre and cloud service providers, to address their current and future demands.

HGC’s optical-fibre network and Cisco MEF CE 2.0 certified ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers (ASR 9000) enable WiseNET to adopt the highest Metro Ethernet industry standard to provide network service.

Cisco ASR 9000 is designed to simplify and enhance the operational and deployment aspects of service-delivery networks.

The MEF CE 2.0 certification is designed to expand the Ethernet services, and establish standards in three areas namely Multiple Classes of Services (Multi-CoS), service management and interconnection, to ensure the quality of network services.

WiseNET service provides a fast network withless than 1ms latency and service availability of 99.98 percent. This will be a better network service for data centres and cloud service providers, while enabling financial institutions to extend securities trading networks to all branch offices.

The cloud-ready WiseNET uses layer 2 architecture and customers can establish point-to-point (E-Line), any-to-any (E-LAN) and point-to-multipoint (E-Tree) network architecture simultaneously, thereby enabling customers to enjoy extremely high network flexibility and simplicity.
