iPass elected to Wireless Broadband Alliance board of directors

Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), a global industry
association that is focused on driving the next generation Wi-Fi experience,
has elected iPass to its board of directors.

“The WBA is crucial to the future of telecom
operator-led Wi-Fi. Our board representative, Marcio Avillez, iPass vice
president of Network Services, is the ideal person to lead our efforts at the
WBA and to continue our support for developing industry standards for Wi-Fi,”
said Evan Kaplan, president and CEO of iPass.

iPass has already been an active member and contributor
to the WBA and the company is looking forward to their continued support and
thought leadership as an influential Wi-Fi
provider.

“Wi-Fi is fundamental to the future of telecom
operators and creating an experience that removes the difficulties of shifting
seamlessly between Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity is a key objective of the
WBA, especially in a world where demand for data is insatiable,” said
Shrikant Shenwai, CEO of the WBA Wireless Broadband Alliance.

iPass provides ‘zero-click’ mobile data offload
services with domestic and international data roaming between 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi
networks.

iPass also enables mobile operators to increase Wi-Fi
coverage to their subscribers with integrated access to the iPass Mobile Network with
more than 600,000 Wi-Fi venues in 109 countries that also allows Wi-Fi
operators to monetize their networks without the need to manage multiple
bilateral connections.

Recently,
WBA revealed in its study that  the global public Wi-Fi hotspot numbers
are set to grow from 1.3 million in 2011, to 5.8 million by 2015, a 350 percent
increase.
