Keysight inks 5G testing deals with OPPO, OnePlus and MediaTek

Keysight Technologies announced separate agreements with OPPO, OnePlus and MediaTek for strengthening their 5G smartphone business.

A UK-based mobile service provider has demonstrated a 5G data connection using OnePlus’ 5G smartphone in a lab. The telecom operator used Keysight’s 5G network emulation solutions for the demo. OnePlus’ 5G smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with Snapdragon X50 5G modem and antenna modules.

“Keysight’s 5G solutions have already played an instrumental role in enabling us to achieve key industry milestones, starting with the world’s first 5G Tweet in October of last year,” said Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus.

Keysight has also announced that OPPO has selected Keysight’s 5G New Radio network emulation solutions for protocol and RF performance validation in sub-6 GHz frequency bands.

Keysight Technologies also announced the industry’s first demonstration of a 5G New Radio (NR) IP data transfer call using MediaTek’s Helio M70 Multi-Mode Modem with integrated baseband.

The demonstration used MediaTek’s multi-mode modem Helio M70 and Keysight’s 5G network emulation solution to achieve the theoretical maximal throughput rate over 100MHz NR bandwidth, for both Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) modes.

“MediaTek’s active development of 5G technology is bringing reliable and fast broadband to consumers around the world,” said JS Pan, general manager at MediaTek.

MediaTek’s Helio M70 is currently the industry’s only 5G modem with LTE and 5G dual connectivity (EN-DC) and multi-mode support for every cellular connectivity generation from 2G to 5G.

In December 2018, Keysight announced that MediaTek selected Keysight’s 5G virtual drive testing (VDT) Toolset for emulating real-world radio frequency network conditions in a laboratory environment.

Kailash Narayanan, vice president of Keysight’s wireless test group, said: “5G deals across the wireless industry are enabling Keysight to deliver 5G solutions, accelerating plans of global mobile operators to deploy 5G networks.”

Keysight revenue

Keysight earlier said its revenue grew 20 percent to $1.006 billion in Q1 2019 with a net income of $114 million.

Keysight’s Communications Solutions Group (CSG) generated revenue of $623 million (+25 percent), driven by demand for 5G R&D across the wireless ecosystem, data center related 400GbE digital test and aerospace, defense and government.

Keysight’s Electronic Industrial Solutions Group (EISG) generated revenue of $257 million (+13 percent), driven by strength in automotive and emerging IoT applications, while the semiconductor market moderated as expected.

Keysight’s Ixia Solutions Group (ISG) generated revenue of $129 million vs $127 million, driven by network visibility solutions, while test revenue remained inline with last year.

Keysight is expecting revenue of $1,057 million — $1,077 million in the second fiscal quarter of 2019.
