NDS announced that Kabel Deutschland, Germany’s
largest cable operator, has deployed NDS’ technologies in their new HD set-top
box (STB).

The new box includes NDS’ MediaHighway STB
software, VideoGuard conditional access, an NDS VOD solution and a customized
electronic program guide (EPG).

The solution enables Kabel Deutschland to
drive High Definition and offer a mass market product that enables customers to
access the Kabel Deutschland -SELECT VIDEO’ on demand service. The new HD STB
was launched in early October and is manufactured by Sagemcom.

Kabel Deutschland has already benefitted
from a number of NDS solutions operating within the Kabel Deutschland network
and devices, including NDS’ MediaHighway advanced STB software, NDS DVR
technology, an electronic programme guide (EPG) and VideoGuard conditional
access, which also protects Kabel Deutschland CI+ modules.

Deutschland is enhancing the user experience for its subscribers and providing
an all round higher quality of viewing, not only with HD as standard, but also
with access to on-demand for all levels of subscriber,” said Yves Padrines, VP
