O2 uses Spirent’s Landslide E10 test platform to validate Wi-Fi network

Spirent Landslide E10 test network platformTelecom operator Telefonica O2 has used Spirent Communications’ Landslide E10 network test platform to validate the Wi-Fi network performance and capacity at the Coca-Cola London Eye.

Merlin Entertainments, operator of the London Eye, has measured its Wi-Fi network performance, in order to ensure its infrastructure could provide a better customer experience for users on the Wi-Fi network while using the new mobile app.

Wi-Fi networks have grown in recent years to help deliver more smartphone app traffic, including both voice and real-time video. O2 is trying to ensure that networks can provide quality of services to users.

Robert Franks, digital director at O2, said Spirent’s test platform allows the telecom operator to test the overall network experience and ensure that its customers are getting the best experience at big events and crowded places.

Spirent, a leading test and measurement company, said Landslide enables Wi-Fi providers to test their network performance and capacity by emulating users with a range of different devices, and the network traffic that they might generate.

“Spirent Landslide allows providers to check their networks and test application scale and performance before users access them,” said David Stehlin, General Manager of Lifecycle Service Assurance at Spirent.

Spirent said several telecom operators have used Landslide E10 to proactively test the network from the end customer’s perspective, to assure the quality of experience for customers.

The strategy of telecom operators, which are trying to optimize Capex and Opex, is to reduce the time, cost and quality of testing and validating performance over traditional walk test methods by emulating the actions of real clients in a repeatable manner.
