On-Ramp Wireless signs agreement with SAIC for smart grid applications

On-Ramp Wireless announced that it has signed an agreement
with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to become a value
added reseller and systems integrator of On-Ramp’s Ultra-Link Processing (ULP)
wireless systems in North America and the UK.

As SAIC deploys Smart Grid as a Service (SGS) for utility
customers, this agreement will enable the companies to offer complete system
solutions to address all aspects of the Grid, from Smart Meter/AMI to
Distribution Automation and risk mitigation applications.

SAIC delivers end-to-end Smart Grid solutions through
skilled systems engineering, power engineering, information technology (IT),
communications, data analytics, and cybersecurity to power utilities.

SAIC helps its customers manage the entire IT
infrastructure, and On-Ramp’s secure ULP wireless platform will enable SAIC to
deploy and manage large scale solutions at a fraction of the cost of competing
systems. SAIC will be utilizing the growing ecosystem of devices based on the
ULP technology.

The ability to remotely monitor devices across large
geographic areas and challenging radio environments is a key requirement within
the Smart Grid. Our combined offering will help address coverage and capacity
challenges that are common with Smart Grid installations,” said Mark
Fronmuller, Energy IT and Smart Grid operations manager. SAIC.

Joining forces with SAIC and tapping into its world
class capabilities reinforces On-Ramp’s strategy to build a strong ecosystem of
industry leaders, capable of delivering complete solutions based on ULP
technology. This is another key step in executing our strategy working with
others to proliferate and accelerate market penetration of our ULP technology,”
said Joaquin Silva, president and CEO of On-Ramp.

With several high profile projects already in
development, On-Ramp is poised to meet the ever-changing demands and challenges
of the Smart Grid.

Recently, On-Ramp Wireless hired
a smart grid expert for its strategic advisory board. According to
On-Ramp Wireless, it has added Jim Kelly, most recently senior vice president
of Transmission & Distribution for Southern California Edison (SCE). On
Ramp Wireless is backed by GE.
