Test and measurement company Viavi Solutions today announced that Openreach, BT’s network business, has selected the OneExpert 580 xDSL field tester to support its G.fast pilot.

BT aims to offer ultrafast broadband services to around 140,000 premises by March 2017 uisng G.fast technology over existing fiber.

Viavi Solutions, a leading telecom testing solutions company, promises reduction in the total cost of test by utilizing OneExpert 580 xDSL field tester.

Earlier, Viavi has supplied over 15,000 units of OneExpert 580 xDSL field tester to Openreach, enabling technicians to install and repair broadband service.

BT and Viavi Solutions enhanced test procedures by adding StrataSync cloud-based asset and data management, as well as support for smartphone-based apps to facilitate technician workflow.

Peter Bell, director Network Portfolio and NGA Operations, Openreach, said “G.fast builds on our existing investment in fiber and we’re moving forward with our pilot to offer ultrafast speeds to around 140,000 premises across 17 locations by the end of March 2017.”

Openreach has earlier tapped Huawei and Nokia to deploy G.fast broadband technology to 10 million homes and businesses across the UK by 2020.

G.fast adoption is expected to rise steeply to reach about 29 million subscribers in 2021, accounting for about 3 percent of the global fixed broadband market, suggest reports from Ovum.

“With over 1.6 million test instruments supporting telecom service providers globally, we have the technology, network and workflow expertise to support customers in their drive to deliver industry-leading solutions,” said Manuel Mato, vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Viavi Solutions, in a statement.
