Qualcomm’s licensing business fetched $1.67 billion in Q3
FY12, as compared to $1.32 billion for the same quarter a year earlier.

“Adoption of 3G and 3G/4G technologies continues
around the world, driving strong year-over-year growth in our chipset and licensing
businesses this quarter. Looking forward, our growth estimates for 3G/4G device
shipments in calendar 2012 have moderated slightly, and we now expect the
demand profile of the calendar year to be more back-end loaded as new devices
are launched for the holiday season,” said Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and CEO of
Qualcomm.

During the quarter, Qualcomm shipped141 million units of
MSM chip shipments, up 18 percent y-o-y and down 7 percent sequentially.

The company has reduced its outlook for semiconductor
volumes in the fiscal fourth quarter, due to a gloomy economic outlook, though
it expects device sales to surge in the fourth quarter because of upcoming
products.

The company is increasing supply of its 28 nanometer
chipsets with four different manufacturing companies to help its semiconductor
business for December quarter.
