Rohde & Schwarz, a manufacturer of electronic test and measurement equipment, announced its deal with SK Telecom to develop key 5G network technologies.
SK Telecom and Rohde & Schwarz will analyze radio propagation characteristics including path loss, angular spreading and time delay profile of 6GHz or higher frequency bands to gain understanding of these channels.
The two companies will also jointly set up a 5G test bed for a new air interface to support efficient transmission of data in the higher frequency bands.
They will continue to work to develop an Active Antenna System (AAS). AAS can create an optimal mobile communication environment by dynamically adjusting radiation patterns. SK Telecom and Rohde & Schwarz have conducted joint research and development activities in this area from 2013.
Alex Jinsung Choi, chief technology officer of SK Telecom, and Christian Leicher, chief operating officer of Rohde & Schwarz, signed the agreement.
