Sony Ericsson expands unlocked phones reach in US with Ingram Micro

Sony Ericsson announced its agreement with Ingram Micro, technology distributor
and supply-chain services provider, to distribute its unlocked phones in the
U.S.

The agreement includes several of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia smartphones, including
the newly released Xperia arc S.

“By teaming with Ingram Micro, we’re expanding our channel reach through
their robust distribution program and we’re excited to forge new relationships
with retailers and customers,” said Peter Farmer, head of Marketing for
North America, Sony Ericsson.

All products will be made available through Ingram Micro starting in November
2011. Globally, Ingram Micro distributes millions of mobile solutions to their
reseller partners, including many e-tailers and retailers such as Amazon.com,
Best Buy, Buy.com and Newegg.com.

“Sony Ericsson’s Xperia smartphone portfolio represents a diverse line-up
that not only capitalizes on the growing Android platform, but also fits the
market’s need for greater manufacturer selection,” said Robert Garry,
director of Mobility, Ingram Micro.

“We’re thrilled to bring Sony Ericsson devices to our channel partners at
a time when consumer demand for innovative smartphones is growing fast and
converging with the business world,” Garry added.

In October 2011, Sony and Ericsson announced that Sony will acquire Ericsson’s
50 percent stake in the company and that Sony Ericsson will become a standalone
division within Sony Corporation.

The transaction is expected to close at the beginning of 2012 and is subject to
regulatory approvals.

Over the years Sony Ericsson has brought together the best
communication technologies with superior entertainment user experiences to
create its Xperia line of smartphones in the industry.
