Spirent unveils solution for testing automotive Ethernet functionality

Telecom testing and measurement vendor Spirent Communications has introduced a solution for testing automotive Ethernet functionality and security to accelerate new in-vehicle features and deliver a better driving experience.

The Spirent C1 Automotive Test System supports the BroadR-Reach industry standard, helping auto makers to deploy Ethernet-based communications technology.

BroadR-Reach uses Ethernet-based communications in vehicles for new functionalities such as multiple cameras and safety radars, infotainment, and Internet connectivity for telematics and other consumer applications.

The adoption of BroadR-Reach, a key technology in the development of future connected vehicles, will also help to reduce vehicle cost and fuel consumption.

Peter Nicholson, general manager of Spirent’s Automotive Business Unit, said: “C1 Automotive platform is an integrated product which provides the highest accuracy, without the need for external media converters.”

The Spirent C1 is designed for use by vehicle manufacturers, sub-system and chipset vendors to ensure conformance and performance to the known Ethernet & IP-Protocol standards.
