“We’ve all witnessed the explosion of cloud services
to deliver apps and access computing power. The challenge for the public cloud
is that it does not have the levels of quality and performance necessary to
support ‘business class’ operations in industries such as finance, insurance,
health care and certain government sectors which are very sensitive to system
delays and interruptions,” said Robert Vrij, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s
Americas Region and head of Global Strategic Alliances.
For the trial Transtelco will connect customers to its El
Paso data center. Also, the company said that the CloudBand trial deployment
builds upon the recent joint endeavor between Alcatel-Lucent and Transtelco to
build a fiber network in central and south Texas.
“Offering carrier class cloud services to our
customers is an integral part of our vision and we believe that
Alcatel-Lucent’s CloudBand solution offers capabilities that are unique in the
market, and will provide us with a great opportunity to explore the role that
cloud services can play in our overall service mix,” said Arturo Iglesias, CTO
for Transtelco.
