ZTE to supply IT and telecom network to Nigerian railway

ZTE will supply IT and telecom equipment and debugging and commissioning services to Nigerian railway.

Nigerian railway will benefit from ZTE communications systems that include transmission system, telephone system, wireless communications system, scheduling and optical communication column system, power supply system, and communication instruments. Information systems include the passenger guidance system, public address system, clock system, and power supply devices, ZTE said.

ZTE did not share the size of the deal.

As part of the deal, ZTE will work with the project contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

CCECC will be building a double-track standard-gauge railway from Lagos in the south to Kano in the north of Nigeria, covering total length of 1,315 kilometers. This will be the first standard railway constructed by a Chinese company in Nigeria, and will be the first modern railway in Nigeria.

ZTE has built the communications systems for over 40 railways in Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Harbin, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Wuhan among others.

It also provided information and communications systems for rail transport projects in Russia, Georgia, Vietnam, and other countries. In addition, ZTE has moved focus from rail transport communications to information-based rail transport systems.
