ZyXEL selects Cavium’s multi-core OCTEON processors

Cavium
Networks announced that ZyXEL has selected the Cavium Networks OCTEON Plus and
OCTEON II processor  technology across a
broad range of ZyXEL’s Integrated Service Gateway (ISG), and Next Generation
Firewalls and UTM appliances (USG).

ZyXEL’s
ZyWALL technology deployed
in these platforms protects more than 400,000 businesses worldwide.

These next
generation appliances for SMB and Enterprises incorporate comprehensive threat
protection with sophisticated firewall, VPN, anti-virus, content filtering,
anti-spam, intrusion detection and prevention to secure the network from front
line threats.

The
deployment of converged networks and rapidly growing users with unsecured
client devices for social gaming and networking have made SMB and Enterprises
vulnerable to deviously morphing malware. Securing these networks while
simultaneously handling the explosively growth of legitimate traffic mandates
very Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and demands an unprecedented level of
processing capabilities in next generation security gateway appliances.

The OCTEON II processors
integrate up to 32 deterministic, low-latency cnMIPS64 cores for up to 48GHz of
64 bit compute power in a single chip. This is combined with over 100 on-chip
L3-L7 application and security acceleration engines, enabling superior
performance for a wide range of application workloads.

For DPI and
content processing applications, third generation DPI engines deliver throughput
up to 40Gbps per chip independent of number of rules and number of flows, an
essential capability not available in alternative solutions.

We are very
pleased to work with Cavium Networks in deploying our highly innovative next
generation Unified Security Gateway solutions,” said Alpha Chen, VP of ZyXEL
Enterprise Solution Business Unit. Cavium’s OCTEON processors have delivered
the performance and features that we had required to bring a very exciting line
of security products to the market. We are looking forward to expanding our
usage with OCTEON II technology on a range of new networking product lines for
the enterprise.

ZyXEL is a
leading provider of security products and we are delighted to be selected by
them for their next generation platforms. Our relationship with ZyXEL will
enable world-class products for the global SMB and enterprise markets rapidly
and address the unique demands for Deep Packet Inspection,” said Y.J. Kim, general
manager, Infrastructure Processor Group at Cavium Networks.
