Facebook adds 100 mn users, 84 mn access on mobile in India

Social media network Facebook has achieved 100 million users in India and more than 84 million are connecting through mobile.

India has around 850 million mobile customers. This means, 10 percent of India’s mobile population access Facebook, showing a huge potential for further growth.

Recently, Indian telecom operators such as Aircel and Uninor announced special data packages to their mobile users to access Facebook. Both Aircel and Uninor will also add special data schemes to access Whatsapp, mobile messaging services, as well.

Kevin D’Souza, head of Growth & Mobile Partnerships, Facebook India, said: “Today, we have more than 100 million people who access Facebook actively in India each month. We’ve only just begun. Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share, and to make the world more open and connected.”

Recently, the social network announced internet dot org, a partnership with the goal of connecting the next 5 billion people around the world.
