Indian telecom operators to offer free calls and SMS on Independence Day





Indian mobile operators are making the most of the upcoming fortnight of festivities that includes Friendship Day, Raksha Bhandan and Independence Day by offering special voice, VAS and SMS discounts to their subscribers.





Loop Mobile started the celebrations from August 1 announcing a 50 percent discount on Caller Tunes as part of a Friendship Week special that will continue till August 7th.





As part of this offer, special friendship songs with a personalized message can be dedicated to friends, and by doing this they could also win a Samsung Galaxy Tab or movie tickets. Song downloads during the week will cost Rs 7, instead of Rs 15, and subscription charges to avail of specially dedicated friendship day songs on the Jukebox are Rs 30, with 60 minutes free of Jukebox listening.





Loop is also offering discounted SMS services in the form of -Love meter’ which will allow subscribers to exchange special love tips, friendship quotes and shaayari at Rs 3 per SMS. There is also a WAP portal called Bollywood/Dosti Zone which allows subscribers to download unlimited friendship songs and wallpapers. This service is priced at Rs 49.

Nokia Ovi Store has also emerged with a new Tool Kit of apps specially for Friendship Day, that include Decision Maker – to help one choose a location to spend Friendship Day; Alcohol Meter – to calculate one’s alcohol levels, and also calculate the alcohol value of drinks one is consuming; WhatsApp Messenger- which is a smartphone messenger service available across platforms that uses 3G or Wi-Fi to send messages to friends and family free of cost, replacing an SMS; Facebook Chat – to meet friends virtually and securely without using any IM client or any other immediate gateway/server. These apps can be downloaded free of cost from the Nokia Ovi Store website.





As part of Independence Day celebrations, MTNL has also introduced special talktime offers for its Delhi and Mumbai prepaid subscribers. MTNL Delhi subscribers can get Rs 64 worth of full talktime on recharging for Rs 64 or Rs 1947 worth of talktime on recharging for Rs 1508, while MTNL Mumbai subscribers can get special Independence Day vouchers priced at Rs 63 and Rs 1508, as well as free local and national SMS with the two vouchers with a validity of 30 days and 60 days, respectively. These offers are valid from August 12-16, 2011.





Idea Cellular are also set to come up with special offers for the festive week shortly.
