Infotainment to drive mobile entertainment revenues to $65bn by 2016: Juniper

Telecom Lead Europe: Rapidly growing consumer tablet
market and strong growth amongst games and infotainment applications will drive
mobile entertainment revenues to reach $65 billion annually by 2016, up from
$36billion last year, according to Juniper Research.

Far East & China will account for the largest share
of mobile entertainment revenues throughout the forecast period.

For applications such as streamed TV, multiplayer gaming
or casino gambling, tablets offer a richer, more immersive experience than
smartphones. This is already translating into markedly higher usage – and
consumer spends – on selected apps within these areas,” said Windsor Holden,
report author.

The report observed that overall entertainment revenues
would continue to increase steadily, while some sectors would fare less well.

The report highlighted the music sector as a case in
point, where growth in streaming subscriptions and full-track downloads have
been more than offset by the continuing decline in ringtones.

Furthermore, with the global ringtone tone market
expected to peak this year, by 2016 the music sector as a whole is expected to
be worth just 80 oercent of its peak 2008 dollar value.

The report noted that the transition to an app-store
centric ecosystem dramatically increased consumer adoption of casual games,
which resulted in the development of a far greater variety of content for
mobile devices.

With greater variety of content for mobile devices,
revenues across a spectrum of infotainment services have already experienced
dramatic growth. The growth is observed in terms of leisure and lifestyle
applications.

Earlier, IE Market Research Corporation predicted that
the global mobile entertainment revenue will rise from $39.6 billion in 2011 to
$53.9 billion in 2016.

The firm said that Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR)
from 2012 to 2016 will be 6.3 percent.

India mobile entertainment market to grow to $1.79 billion in
2016 from $670 million in 2011

Total revenue in India’s mobile entertainment market will
rise to $1.79 billion in 2016, significantly up from $670 million in 2011 (CAGR
of 18.2 percent from 2012 – 2016).

India will continue to be the fastest-growing market, as
India’s mobile entertainment market is teeming with publishers, distributors,
operator competition and relatively less stringent broadcasting regulations.
