IPL 5 brings opportunities to game developers and mobile device makers

Telecom Lead India: With the commencement of fifth season
of Indian Premier League, many companies have jumped on to the bandwagon to
introduce a slew of products for the T20 season. Not only the mobile VAS
companies, but device manufacturers also have come up with various offerings
for the consumers.

Introduction of these IPL focused apps will certainly
help these companies to amplify their revenues.

Recently, PlayUp, a mobile gaming and sports
entertainment company, launched Cricket Empire, which is a social Cricket game
to increase fan engagement around the IPL. Additionally, the company has also
unveiled Android Version of PlayUp’s application which provides users with an
immersive experience.

The sports entertainment industry is very huge and PlayUp
sees a good business potential in this segment.

We at PlayUp, are committed to bringing fans closer to
the live action and wish to engage and even larger fan following with the IPL,”
said Rajat Kushresthsa, CEO of PlayUp India.

The company seeks to consolidate its positioning in the
Indian market with its gamut of offerings.

Whilst the PlayUp app is completely free for consumers,
Rajat said, along with free services of PlayUp, we offer premium services to
ours consumers, who can follow and interact with their favorite sportsperson by
paying a onetime fee. Furthermore, we offer PlayUp platform to other
developers, which allows us to generate revenue.”

GAPPS, a product and service based company, has launched
its IPL dugout application for iPhone and Android platforms. The IPL dugout
mobile application by GAPPS has sped to the top ranks just after its launch,
beating the popular ‘Angry Birds’ classic game in the Apple app store.

The company claimed that the vast number of
ever-increasing downloads is because of the fact that this app is the only
unofficial app that shows live scores and other live updates apart from a host
of other features which makes this app – everything IPL.

IPL dugout uses powerful location-based technology to
show you list of diners screening the current match, list of offers related to
IPL around you and all locations across India where IPL matches are scheduled
on a map.

Along with these companies, device manufacturers have
also joined the T20 cricket season with several announcements. Recently, mobile
handset leader Nokia India unveiled an interactive marketing campaign called ‘Nokia Channel Me’ as part of its engagement with the forthcoming IPL season.

The campaign revolves around the existing and new Nokia
smartphone consumers downloading an application called ‘Fun2Shoot’ from the
Nokia Store or Windows Phone Marketplace and stream live content created by
them.

On the other hand, BackBerry has also made available
several apps on its BlackBerry AppWorld. The company has introduced official
DLF IPL 2012 app for BlackBerry smartphone for free.

Furthermore, BlackBerry has introduced cricket app, which
