TomTom bags deal to offer real-time traffic information to British Automobile Association website

By Telecom Lead Team:
TomTom, a provider of location and navigation products and services, has
entered into a partnership with the British Automobile
Association (the AA) to provide the real-time traffic information for The AA’s
traffic news website.

The AA website will let in TomTom HD traffic data, which
will provide a live view of road conditions and areas of congestion.

With TomTom HD Traffic, the AA is safe in the knowledge
that its users can accurately plan their journeys and be fully aware of the
most up-to-date conditions on their routes. We believe that by partnering with
the AA, TomTom is making it possible to more efficiently use the road network
and reduce traffic congestion in the UK,” said Charles Cautley, managing
director TomTom
Automotive and Licensing.

TomTom HD Traffic contains information from multiple data
sources, including connected navigation devices, mobile phones, road sensors and
real time incident data that creates a picture of traffic conditions as they
evolve. It combines anonymous information to produce real time traffic products
using proprietary and tested methods.

TomTom provides updates every minute ensuring the AA’s customers
are fully aware of the current road conditions before they start their travel.
The service offers comprehensive coverage across the UK.

With winter upon us, we are focused on helping
drivers prepare for their journeys by using the most up-to-date traffic
information available to ensure they are not caught by surprise with traffic
incidents or significant congestion. We trust that by equipping drivers with
TomTom HD Traffic, they will have both a more positive navigation experience
and a faster and safer journey,” said Steve Wing of the AA.

Recently, TomTom announced a strategic deal with Samsung to provide maps and location
content to Samsung Wave3 smartphone. TomTom will provide information to
support daily location needs of Wave3 users, from navigation to search and
find.
