Wynk Music said its users have played Spanglish summer single Despacito featuring Justin Bieber over 50 million times and achieved over 3 million downloads on the mobile app.

Despacito is Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Spanglish summer single featuring Justin Bieber.  Wynk Music said this is a record achievement for the music app promoted by Bharti Airtel.

Wynk Music said the song became the most searched for track on the music streaming app and has stayed on the No.1 spot since its launch in late April. The racy single song which rocked the global music charts, has left behind some of 2017’s biggest Bollywood and international hits in becoming a fan favorite in India as well.

Greater exposure to global popular culture is driving up the demand for International music among Indian listeners. In addition to metros, the English music consumption has spiked in non-metro, tier 2 cites as well.

Music streaming app Wynk allow listeners to discover new music by top international artists for free.

“Today International music makes up more than 26 percent of overall song plays on Wynk Music, with top international tracks competing head-to-head with Bollywood hits. While Bollywood still rules the roost, English music streams have grown manifold on the app,” said Kartik Sheth, CEO of Wynk.
