Telecom equipment major Ericsson will buy Telcocell to strengthen BSS offerings.
In September 2012, Ericsson acquired OSS-BSS provider ConceptWave Software. ConceptWave strengthens Ericsson’s offering in the area of operations – and business support systems (OSS/BSS) with Order Management and Product Catalog solutions, providing solutions to better support network operators.
Ericsson is acquiring assets at a time when Nokia Siemens Networks sold its BSS unit.
Ericsson on Wednesday said approximately 200 services employees and consultants are expected to join Ericsson in Q3, 2013.
The acquisition complements Ericsson’s offering to telecom and cable customers particularly in North America.
Ericsson will benefit from Telcocell’s consulting and systems integration experience in converged charging, custom development, quality assurance and production support for BSS.
The acquisition complements Ericsson’s existing comprehensive BSS product portfolio and expertise in these fields and will further strengthen the company’s customer relations and BSS transformation capabilities, primarily in North America.
“Acquiring capabilities from Telcocell will further strengthen our ability to offer full ICT transformation capabilities to our customers, and Ericsson’s competitiveness at the intersection where IT meets telecom,” said Paolo Colella, head of Consulting and Systems Integration at Ericsson.
