Spirent Velocity to validate SDN and NFV technologies and deployments

Telecom test and measurement (T&M) vendor Spirent Communications today announced Spirent Velocity, a virtual lab environment that helps validate Software Defined Networks (SDN) / Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies and deployments.

Spirent Velocity helps accelerate time to market and reduce expenses associated with traditional virtual and physical test beds.

For SDN/NFV technologies, predicting how networks, applications and security devices perform is a significant challenge since there are multiple elements involved, from the network layer through the compute and application layers, said Spirent.

Spirent Velocity allows users to set-up a predictable and repeatable virtualized test fabric to a desired deployment architecture, including choice of hypervisors, guest operating systems, reference server setup, NFV and other network elements such as SDN controllers and switches.

Spirent Velocity’s cloud-based design incorporates the Spirent TestCenter Virtual and Spirent Avalanche Virtual test appliances, simplifying setting-up and running test cases using a database of methodologies for testing performance, availability, security and scale (PASS) of SDN/NFV.

In addition, the cloud-based framework lets test engineers utilize physical and virtual test products of their choice on the platform, including other various test appliances or open source tools, to take advantage of existing investments and resources.

Patrick Johnson, vice president of Cloud and Virtual Solutions at Spirent Communication, said: “With Spirent Velocity, enterprises, service providers and network equipment manufacturers are able to build out a predictable and repeatable virtual test environment that ensures they qualify their systems for performance and scalability with confidence, while minimizing the investment needed in test equipment or expertise.”
