Openwave Mobility adds 7 operators for optimization technology

wireless data userTelecom software company Openwave Mobility today announced that seven mobile operators have deployed its optimization technology, Secure Traffic Manager (STM), in the past seven months.

Tier 1 operators in North and South America, Asia and the Middle East have selected the telecom software provider to manage and monetize encrypted mobile data. These operators have a combined footprint of over 100 million subscribers.

In addition, an ICT solutions provider offering services to mobile operators globally will deploy the technology in the United States.

STM can optimize Google’s ubiquitous internet traffic protocol QUIC along with TCP and HTTPS. In some parts of the world 60 percent of network data is encrypted and this could reach 80 percent before the end of 2017. Its NFV enabled STM solution is designed to deliver outstanding QoE.

Google introduced new protocols for the YouTube app in July 2016. Within four months, Openwave Mobility detected a 200 percent increase in QUIC encrypted data travelling on operator networks. Facebook has started introducing its own encryption protocol, and Instagram has followed suit.

“OTT encryption will only continue to rise. Operators need the right technology to optimize, analyze and manage this “dark data”. Our solution improves video start time and reduces video stalling especially during network congestion leading to improved user experience and lower churn,” said Indranil Chatterjee, SVP Product & Sales at Openwave Mobility.
