Micromax A110 (Canvas 2) review

Telecom Lead Asia:When our editors reviewed the Micromax A110 (Canvas 2) smartphone last week, they were not comfortable with functions of several features. For instance, the auto-rotate function of Micromax A110 (Canvas 2) is not as responsive as it should be.The display resolution isn’t the best for viewing videos and playing games as the video quality is not that sharp. The successor of Micromax’s flagship model A100 is targeted buyers who look for cost effective smartphones. The budget phone comes with other issues as well. While switching from Apps to home screen or between open Apps the device sometimes lags.

Micromax A110 or Canvas 2 is the successor of its flagship model A100.

Design:

The basic design of the phone has been borrowed from the Samsung S series, but it looks attractive and durable. The dimension of the phone is slightly bigger than the previous A100 model. Though the 5 inch screen size is the same as the previous model but A100 had a TFT capacitive touchscreen against Canvas 2 which has IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen.

Below the screen there are three capacitive touch keys for Home, Back & Menu. The Power key is on the right side & the volume key is on the left hand side. The 3.5 ear jack sits on the top of the device while the USB/charging connector with a mouthpiece is at the bottom. The front facing camera and the earpiece are above the screen. The back of the phone has 8 megapixels camera with dual LED flash and speaker grill on the bottom. The overall design of the phone is nice and attractive.

Interface/OS:The phone runs on Android 4.0 ICE with Dual Core 1 GHz MediaTek MT 6577 processor. The browsing experience is better than its predecessor because of the powerful processor.Battery:The phone comes with a standard Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery with no improvements on stand-by and talk time from the previous model. The stand-by time is up to 180 hrs. and talk time is up to 5 hrs. Overall the phone delivers average battery results.Camera:

Canvas 2 comes with 8 megapixels main camera with autofocus and dual LED flash. It also has 0.3-megapixel front camera.  The picture quality is good though we wish the front camera was more powerful as the pictures were a bit grainy. The video quality is good. It features 1080 pixels full HD recording and playback at 30 frames per second. The video call quality from the front facing camera is average. The display resolution isn’t the best for viewing videos and playing games as the video quality is not that sharp.

Memory:

The phone comes with an inbuilt memory of 4 GB, of which 2 GB is the user available memory. The memory can be extended up to 32 GB. It supports 512 MB RAM. The phone works good on 2G as well as 3G. Sometimes menu navigation causes lags which makes us wish that the RAM was of higher capacity.

Features:It’s loaded with useful features like Dual SIM, Social networking sites, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk along with SNS integration.Specifications:Body:Dimensions: 147*76.5*9.7 mm

Verdict:
The Micromax A 110 is indeed one of the best smartphones in its price range. The 5 inch display screen, 8 mega pixel camera & the powerful processor makes it the best value for money phone. Few modifications like better RAM & front camera quality would have made it a perfect smartphone to use. Still it is a decent smartphone with good features and performance.TelecomLead.com’s Rating: 7/10
