Apple is planning to start manufacturing iPhone 14 in India about two months after the product’s initial release out of China, Bloomberg news report said.

The US-based technology company has been working with suppliers to ramp up production in India and shorten the lag in manufacturing new iPhones from the typical six to nine months for previous launches, the report said.

The second largest smartphone vendor has generated $40.66 billion revenue from selling iPhones during the April-June quarter of 2022.

Apple, which made most of its iPhones in China, is seeking alternatives as Xi Jinping’s administration clashes with the US government and imposes lockdowns across the country that have disrupted economic activity.

Apple, according to an IDC report, shipped 44.6 million iPhones during the second quarter of 2022 as compared with 44.4 million in the same quarter previous year.

Apple, according to a Strategy Analytics report, ranked the second place with 16 percent share, the highest second quarter performance over the past ten years.

Apple shipped 48 million iPhones worldwide, up +3 percent, for 16 percent market share in Q2 2022. This is the highest second quarter market share for Apple over the past ten years. Apple had a good second quarter, led by iPhone 13 series which continued to ramp up volumes in US, China and other key markets.

Linda Sui, Senior Director at Strategy Analytics, earlier said geopolitical issues, economy downturn, price inflation, exchange rate volatility, and Covid-19 disruption will weigh on the smartphone market during the second half of 2022.
