Huawei, Lenovo, LG grab 14% smartphone market share in 2013, says Strategy Analytics

Asian device vendors — Huawei, Lenovo and LG – have grabbed 14 percent smartphone market share in 2013, said Strategy Analytics.

Samsung’s smartphone market share last year increased to 32.3 percent from 30.4 percent in 2012.

Apple’s share in the global smartphone market reduced to 15.5 percent from 19.4 percent.

Smartphone market share of Huawei rose to 5.1 percent from 4.3 percent.

LG and Lenovo improved their smartphone market share to 4.8 percent and 4.6 percent from 3.8 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively.

While, Strategy Analytics said global smartphone shipments grew 41 percent annually to reach a record 990 million units in 2013, IDC said smartphone shipments rose 38.4 percent to 1.004 billion units.

Strategy Analytics said global smartphone shipment growth decreased slightly from 43 percent in 2012 to 41 percent in 2013, due to high penetration in some major markets like the United States.

Interestingly, Nokia, Sony, ZTE, HTC, etc. did not make it to the top 5 list of global smartphone vendors.

Apple remains strong in the high-end smartphone segment, but a lack of presence in the low-end category is costing it lost volumes in fast-growing emerging markets such as India.

Samsung improved share thanks to Galaxy and Note 3.
