Mobile wallet company MobiKwik has launched MobiKwik Lite app targeting unorganized retailers and shopkeepers across India for their mobile payments.
The size of the MobiKwik Lite is less than 1 MB. Small retailers and shopkeepers can download the MobiKwik Lite even on EDGE connections which are widely available on 2G networks.
MobiKwik Lite will address the underserved smartphone users, are unable to access digital payments easily due to slow data connectivity. Users can download this app with one missed call and sign up with their mobile number only. They do not need any email account.
“Majority of Indians do not have access to digital payments due to connectivity issues. With 250 million smartphones and less than 50 percent net penetration, India is highly underserved and the adverse impact of this reality is being observed by masses given the recent demonetization,” said Bipin Preet Singh, co-founder of MobiKwik.
By end of this week, the app will be available in all major Indian languages and soon, MobiKwik Lite will work without any net connectivity too.
Indian shopkeepers or retailers can download the MobiKwik Lite app directly by giving a missed call to 80971-80971 from any Android smartphone, without an email id and without having a Google Play Store account. Users will receive a link to download the application after giving a missed call to this number.
Once a user clicks on this link, they can download page and download the app within 30 seconds, even on a 2G / EDGE connection. User receives an OTP and can register instantly on the MobiKwik platform. The app will work on an Android smartphone even with a dated Android OS. The company will also be launching an offline version of this app.
The company is also expanding its on-ground workforce to reach out to unorganised retailer pan India and educate them about MobiKwik Lite.
MobiKwik has a network of over 250,000 direct merchants and 40 million plus users.
