RIM and BrightPoint enhance support of BlackBerry smartphones in Malaysia

Telecom Lead Asia: Brightpoint, a provider of device
lifecycle services to the wireless industry, and Research In Motion (RIM),
announced an expansion of their distribution agreement into Malaysia.

The expanded distribution agreement will increase the
availability of BlackBerry smartphones, software and accessories to operators,
retailers and system integrators in Malaysia.

As per the agreement, BrightPoint will provide customer
support for BlackBerry smartphone users who purchase their smartphone from any
of BrightPoint’s retail partners in Malaysia.

Moreover, BrightPoint and RIM will be working together to
provide product training, in-store marketing support and point-of-sale
materials to BrightPoint’s distribution partners in the country.

“We are excited about strengthening our relationship
with RIM, and view this agreement as a reflection of our efficiency, relevance
and distribution leadership position in the Malaysian market. This agreement
allows us to further leverage our capacity and the value and flexible solutions
we provide to customers in Malaysia,” said Felix Wong, BrightPoint’s
Senior Vice President of SEA (South East Asia).

“Malaysians have shown a strong desire for
BlackBerry smartphones, and we are pleased to expand our relationship with
BrightPoint in order to expand the availability of BlackBerry products and
support in Malaysia,” said Nicholas Horton, managing director at RIM.
