LG G Pad 8.3 tablet is coming into the global devices market at a time when IDC forecasting lower growth in tablets in 2013. IDC recently trimmed its earlier tablet growth forecast saying worldwide tablet shipments will reach 227.4 million units in 2013, down from a previous forecast of 229.3 million. The impact may be significant for new players like LG if the Korean company can not bring innovative and several devices at different price points.
However, tablets are growing much better than smartphones. Tablet shipments will grow at 57.7 percent above 2012 shipments. By 2017, tablet shipments will be nearly 407 million units. This means, there will be enough space for new players including LG.

There are other concerns in the tablet market. For instance, IDC recently said device vendors shipped 25.2 million phablets in Q2 of 2013 compared with 12.6 million tablets, and 12.7 million portable PCs. Phablets rose 100 percent quarter on quarter, and up 620 percent for the same quarter in 2012. This means, tablets is losing its appetite among consumers.
IDC expects interest in portable PCs to pick up as more hybrid and touch-enabled models launch, while tablets will pick up on the launch of Apple’s refreshed models and continued growth in the 7 to 9 inches category.
Is LG G Pad 8.3 tablet the best device for tablet users? It is a premium device. It may not be the ideal tablet for emerging mobile markets.
