Panasonic unveils Toughpad family of Android tablets

Panasonic announced new additions to its
Toughpad family of Android tablets, which will be available next year at starting
prices of $1299.

The new Toughpad products are available in
two ranges: Toughpad A1 which is a 10-inch tablet, and B2, a 7-inch device. Toughpad
A1 caters to highly mobile outdoor workers in the markets, like those working
in the aviation, construction, field sales and the public sector, where
exposure to extreme environments is a constant challenge and the consequence of
a failure is significant. It can be used as a tool to optimize business
processes as it can replace pen and paper work.

Toughpad B1 caters to almost similar markets,
but suits more to the situation that demands critical device mobility and
portability.

The target users will be supported by an
eco-system that includes an enterprise focused app store, peripherals,
developer tools, deployment support with other features.

“Panasonic has been a leading force in the government and
enterprise mobile computing space””including tablet, convertible tablet, and
handheld devices””for over fifteen years,” said
Rance M. Poehler, president Panasonic Solutions
Company.

“For many manufacturers this is new
territory, but it’s currently one of Panasonic’s growing product categories. The
Toughpad tablets are developed from the inside out to address the needs of the
business users. As a result, our customers will get the most rugged, reliable
and enterprise-appropriate tablets in the world helping to drive efficiency
and productivity in ways that were never possible,” Poehler added.

Panansonic has introduced Toughpad family
with the purpose to serve enterprise-class mobile computing segment which
requires an enhanced level of device security.

Toughpad A1 comes with security embedded at
the hardware level. It features technologies like hardware and software
encryption, enhanced VPN, dual factor authentication, trusted boot and device
management. Toughpad A1 will be compliant with FIPS 140-2 for Federal
government use and HIPAA ready for healthcare environments.

Toughpad is also supported by the Business AppPortal,
an enterprise-focused app store offering best-of-breed vertical market specific
solutions as well as applications addressing broad enterprise concerns,
including Mobile Device Management, security and virtualization.

This cloud-based user storefront will
enable IT Managers and developers to store, download and test applications for
use on their Toughpad devices. Besides all, Panasonic will also offer private
application stores within the Business AppPortal. The A1 Toughpad also offers
optional 4G (LTE or WiMAX) mobile broadband as well as Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR,
