IDT delivers 100ns latency interconnect for 5G with RapidIO RXS switches

IDTIntegrated Device Technology (IDT) announced it has developed RapidIO RXS switches paired with Xilinx UltraScale FPGA.

The switches claim to offer a combination of ultra-low 100ns latency interconnect and programmable computing with application-specific accelerators, for 4G advanced and 5G programs.

IDT also announced a wireless data compression solution on Xilinx Zynq 7000 All Programmable SoCs.

Enabling data to fit into a network fiber or link, the solution will target remote RapidIO units, repeaters, and base stations to improve front haul capacity with compression ratios ranging from 2:1 to 3:1.

Also, IDT offers high-performance timing solutions on Xilinx devices, including IEEE 1588 high-performance time synchronization products directed for time alignment error requirements between 5G RRUs in Cloud Radio Access Networks (C-RAN).

The technologies claim to offer high-performance computing, hyperscale cloud data centers, mobile edge computing, and mission-critical embedded systems, related to 5G.

“IDT’s strategy in 5G is focused on tackling the largest obstacles–capacity, latency and time synchronization–with silicon-level and software solutions that dramatically change the end-user experience,” conveyed Sailesh Chittipeddi, chief technology officer and vice president, global operations, IDT.

The technology is available now.

IDT and Xilinx recently completed interoperability testing of IDT RXS family of RapidIO switches with Xilinx FPGAs at 10.3125 Gbaud per lane.

Recently ZTE selected the IDT RapidIO 10xN interconnect semiconductors for the new generation of wireless base stations.

In another major deal, IDT has been selected to deliver RapidIO technology to IBM to develop a new computing solution for telecom edge networks.
